Prepping to replace the Jazz’s cat tomorrow, I went in search of an m8x1.0 tap. Finally found an engineering supplier who had stock and drove over. They had a particularly aggressive speed bump and the e46 made a pretty loud bang as the front wheels dropped off the bump. Parked up and had a quick look underneath. Nothing obvious damaged or hanging off. Had a look at the bump and saw two rusted pan head screws lying on the floor.
Figured I should pick them up to at least save someone else getting a puncture.
As I leave the place and drive up the road I notice a vibrating noise coming from the front driver’s side.
Fuck.
Seems to come on when accelerating slightly sporadically. Pull over and have another look. Can’t see owt.
Get home, jack it up, no play in the wheel so unlikely to be wheel bearing, and RWD so not CV joint. Could be ball joint/track arm but again no play in wheel.
I stick my head under the car and notice a fresh scratch on the bottom of the subframe, and 3 spots that appear to be missing screws where the plastic panel attaches to the subframe. Grab the screws I picked up off the floor and bodge them back in. Fingers crossed this was all it was.
Very csb. But a bang followed by a vibrating noise on a 17yr old car is less than reassuring.
Sadly also noticed some small bubbles on the lower part of the drivers door :(
Today’s car fiasco.
