• Apparently new ISO regs for divers watches state that the watch must have lume at all 12 indices. There are lots of divers watches with a date at three instead of an hour marker, eg the Submariner Date, Sea-Dweller etc., that presumably no longer meet the regs.

Seiko take pride in having “Diver’s” on their dive watches, which it seems they wouldn’t be able to do on a new watch without having lume at three. Rolex don’t actually use that designation on their watches so it’s probably more a question of pride / marketing.

  • Ah!

    thanks for the clarity!

so if it doesnt say Diver, you cant dive. If it doesnt have a Pip at the date, you cant dive. If it says diver it better have the pip, else you implode. (divers reference). Got you.

  • I don’t really understand why they’d change the ISO spec at this point when anyone diving is using a dive computer and a watch as a backup at best, but what do I know. Maybe it was a genuine problem?
