  • Dualit update: It stopped working again for fucking ages, I couldn't find anyone to fix it so gave it to my very patient neighbour who drilled a hole in the bottom so I can flip the safety switch whenever I need to... The timer doesn't always work, it's not very reliable for a very simple and supposedly high quality piece of kitchen equipment... Nice toast tho'...

At least it didn't cost me anything... I bought a Cuisinart hot air popcorn maker for next to nothing yesterday, bloody wonderful machine...

  • Just put a new timer in mine, it's older then me. new timer and it's good to go. no longer worried about housemates burning my house down. 15 quid well spent

  • Are they easy to replace? Might do the same thing...

  • yep, piece of piss

  • It's a clockwork timer, hardly complex.

I used to by knackered ones on eBay, refurb them and then flog on for £££'s.

They are reliable, heavy duty toasters built for the catering industry but have now become middle-class.

  • Saw one on eastenders today

  • Exactly, even the BBC props department have them now.

  • Would anyone one here like a Dualit DCT2? Bottom element has gone but everything else works perfectly. The person who was buying it has pissed about for two weeks and has decided they don't want it anymore. We've got builders in next week and need it gone so it's free if you come and get it. It weighs almost 25kg and is approximately W40cm x H40cm x D65cm just so you know what you're getting yourself into!

  • For that Premier Inn experience...

  • That's not a bad thing by the way

  • I need a new toaster after an incident involving a small fire. Does a Dualit classic fit a Warburtons crumpet?

  • Standard Dualit slots are 22mm, if you get one with the toastie slot it's 30mm.

  • My neighbour drilled a hole in the bottom of my Dualit for me, nice little mod so I can flip the trip switch... Timer seems to have sorted itself out...

  • Does a Dualit classic fit a Warburtons crumpet?

If you cut a kind of spiral hole in it, you might be able to unfold it to make an aperture big enough to fit the toaster through.

Dunno why you'd want to though.

  • Would be tough cutting the spiral and maintaining structural integrity with all those holes. It would be an exercise in precision.

Reading about toasters it seems the newer dualit models take into account toaster temperature to ensure the second round of toast is cooked to the same toastedness. This appeals to me.

The instructions for a classic also mention heating up the toaster first to reduce uneven toasting. Ain't nobody got time for that.

  • Thanks. I'm off to the shop for some crumpets.

  • My dualit toaster, which I am very fond of, only has two toaster settings in reality. The first is, oh that's not done at all, I'd better wait a few minutes more, and the second, which is available about 1 minute after the first, is: fuck me my kitchen is full of smoke, my breakfast is fucked, can someone call the fire brigade?

    They do look nice though.

  • £70 at John Lewis, £5 at the charity shop fully working.

Guys, do you know how to Google?

  • Like the inevitability of the changing seasons and toast being brown, the timer of my new gen Dualit 20245 is sticking after three years of average use. Any tips for replacement? Where to buy from, just go direct to Dualit?

  • Are they still clockwork timers? Just give it a GT85 spray (obviously unplugged) and get brown toast with added serviced bike smell.

  • That would be a bonus for the family and I'll try that first. When I actually took it apart, far easier than thought, probably a five minute job if you're nimble, just a few screws to remove and then spade connectors for the timer itself. New timer £11 from eBay if it comes to that.

  • They are pretty simple to repair tbh. I used to make a little side line cash of buying 'knackered' one's from the Bay, repairing and flogging them on.

  • In the same vein, our Dualit kettle is fucked after 5 years. The button doesn’t stay in the on position unless you maniacally mash it like a keyboardist from a 90s house duet.

The screw heads were conveniently stripped at the factory so I can’t meet it myself without breaking the plastic base.

Recommend me a kettle. Proper BIFL one but electric, not hob.

  • Does anyone have the hay toaster?
