  • You'd think insurance would cover it, but despite notifying our house insurance provider and providing them with a copy of the builder's insurance there appears to be no cover for this anywhere!

We're still working on it, but the long and short of it is that our home policy doesn't cover damage caused by the builder's incompetence or negligence and his policy doesn't cover him for the type of building work he was undertaking.

  • Hello,

Who did the structural calculations? Have you got attached neighbours?

It is not just bricks and mortar, it is your home.

Speak to the insurance ombudsman, they may be able to help.

  • Thanks, my Dad used to work in the insurance game so he's helping us on that front.

We know it won't go anywhere but we'll be instructing him that he must claim on his insurance when we have an idea of overall damage this weekend. He's the only one who can claim as it's his policy, but we will be copying in the insurer when we do it.

We expect no response from him as he's got his head in his arse and hasn't responded to any of our communications so far.

After that there's the 3rd party rights against insurers act, but only after his company is wound up (which he's trying to do).
