Different than helicopters but I was once on an RAF airfield and a Eurofighter Typhoon was doing really low flybys over our heads. Even though I knew where it would be coming from it was impossible to actually see it approaching, it was just suddenly there and then you could follow it flying away and pulling up.
The trick the pilots use is to hide over a hill, pop up so the radome can see ahead without engine or blade noise projecting forwards, pop down again, lock on, pop up and fire. Chilling.
