How good are they for general in the kitchen doing the cooking listening to shit and asking Siri to tell my daughter to get off her iPad?
They (and things like Amazon Echo Dot) are perfect for that.
Assuming you're not some hardened Audiophile the sound isn't bad (remember it's going to be mono unless you get two of them and pair them up for stereo sound) but they become really useful.
We only have one, in the kitchen, and it's used as a radio "Play Radio 5" or "Play Talk Sport 2" (for the cricket), playing music, setting timers for cooking (really useful when hands are dirty and you don't want to piss around with a phone), asking homework questions, asking what the weather will be like, etc, etc.
