Ha, I just looked at Rufford Ford, and there's one not-very-visible 'Ford' warning sign either side. That's it. The one to the east is 300 yards away and the one to the west is at 120 yards.
The name of the stream is excellent: Rainworth Water.

I think we should have more.
We should make them just a fraction deeper than the maximum fording depth of a BMW X5. -

A slightly damp road in Surrey?

There is a lane near Ripley that often floods . I’ve seen two near identical Merc E-class estates and an A6 in a line with their bonnets up and an AA man peering in there. For the life of me I can’t work out what was going through the head of the second Mercedes driver.

Around 75 per cent of the vehicles caught up in floods are written off and sent to the crusher, but some still make it back to forecourts – and it’s these you need to watch out for.
Water wreaks havoc with electrical components, and corrosion can lead to recurring problems long after the car has dried out. Sudden immersion can cause the honeycomb internals of catalytic converters to crack, while brakes and wheel bearings can be ruined. In addition, starter motors and alternators are likely to fail.Costly.
