Try moving both devices to the right hand ports:

Ive spoke to apple online and they said that ive got to see if it still does it with the charger in and nothing plugged in but as Boisb has said it could be that issue with the board.
Ill also try this other thing but the henge dock was plugged into the right earlier and the USB-C SSD was in the left. Ive currently got the Henge plugged into the left and the drive into the henge and its still at 100%

Depending on exactly which model dock you have and how it's implemented, it's possible that the connection between the dock and the computer are limited to 60W, whereas the dock gets a full 87W from the laptop charger. If computer+SSD need more than 60W, it'll drain the battery.

I get what your saying, says on there site provides up to 87w of charger tho.

That’s really interesting, my usual setup I charge on the left and often get mad fan use and the kernel task running.

I want to get rid of mine, I think it was a mistake betting on Airplay with mesh wifi. Just going to geta dumb bluetooth speaker.
-
• #17511
I haven't made the move to a mesh network why wouldn't it work with airplay?

I’m sure there’s drawbacks
You mean like how it gives you Covid and they put a microchip inside you?
Seriously though this sounds like a good solution to the fact Plusnet are currently quoting four weeks to move our broadband and I don't think we'll get four weeks notice of our house move...

How good are they for general in the kitchen doing the cooking listening to shit and asking Siri to tell my daughter to get off her iPad?
They (and things like Amazon Echo Dot) are perfect for that.
Assuming you're not some hardened Audiophile the sound isn't bad (remember it's going to be mono unless you get two of them and pair them up for stereo sound) but they become really useful.
We only have one, in the kitchen, and it's used as a radio "Play Radio 5" or "Play Talk Sport 2" (for the cricket), playing music, setting timers for cooking (really useful when hands are dirty and you don't want to piss around with a phone), asking homework questions, asking what the weather will be like, etc, etc.

Would love to know more. What's the issue?

Just make sure to get vaccinated first, and then wrap yourself in tin foil?

This was how I ended up with 4G mobile broadband back in 2012. The wait time for a cabled connection wasn't quick. And being without for so long wasn't really feasible for work and general usage. And the 4G was as fast, if not faster than the cabled connection we'd have to wait for. Now with the 5G's ridiculous speeds, I can't see the point of a cabled connection. Just hope your new place has good signal.

Where are all the 16GB M1 MacBook pros? I swear there was stock at Curry's last week, now the only place with stock seems to be Apple
-
• #17518
Answered my own question. Turns out 16gb is a ‘custom build’ and only available from Apple. Do I need 16gb? By all accounts these things are savage but I’m keen to future proof as much as possible. I’m not goi g to be rendering 4K video, but it seems logical that future apps will use more ram? The £200 outlay now seems reasonable if it gets a few extra years out of it.
-
• #17519
Was kind of thinking about future proofing in those terms as well until my 11 year old MBP was revived for about 150 bux via a new SSD.
I will stay tuned regardless, FYI I have two slots with 4gb in each. -
• #17520
It’s a no-brainer imo. £200 over the lifetime of the machine is a minor, and there is zero upgrade path post-purchase.
-
• #17521
Yeah I agree. The complication is that ideally I’d be making a purchase of over £2k so o can claim the VAT back. Which is why I wanted to buy from Curry’s/John Lewis as I could get a monitor as well. I’m not prepared to put Apple display prices!

Would I be able to drive two screens from two separate usb c - hdmi adapters plugged into two different usb c ports (macbook pro) or do I need to get a usb c - dual hdmi adapter? Does video only get sent to one usb c port at a time?
-
• #17524
Do I need 16gb?
Yes esp if its £200.
And esp yes if you use any Adobe software.
-
• #17525
Depends on the computer. AIUI the M1 Macs can only drive two screens at once (including internal), the Intel ones should be fine.
Sounds like your usbc board needs replacing. I suggest booking it in and kicking up a fuss for a free replacement. Fortunately on your model they have made the board replaceable and not part of the main logic board.
