sorry I missed this somehow. no, no idea what happened. one minute he was rolling along looking at his bars, next minute he was on the deck. looked like something might have failed on the fork? was odd anyway

My armchair analysis guess is that he might have slipped off the front of the saddle. Unexpected change of weight on his arms made him swerve. I know I've been close to doing it at the end of a race a few times.
They probably wouldn't be too quick to admit that, and the bike looked fine (as far as I could see in the few seconds afterwards). I hope they announce the reason whatever it was though

Antonio Tiberi (19 years of age ... paging Oliver) is back on social media, seemingly ok.
That was a sketchy head hit.
What caused the crash? Is anyone any the wiser?

Antonio Tiberi (19 years of age ... paging Oliver)
Me? Or another Oliver?
Not sure what you mean, I didn't remark on commentators saying 'x years of age' (in case it's that).

I’ve falsely attributed it to you! It was @WillMelling
I’ll blame him for the chaos ;-)
-
• #31012
He'll blame you for tagging him, and I don't blame him. How many times does he have to say he doesn't like it?
-
• #31013
I make a point of tagging him each time. I’ve lost count.

I make a point of tagging him each time.
But why?

This is great footage. Morkov, Richeze and Archbold is a pretty decent leadout for Bennett.

Don't want to be a chauvinist fanboy, but that boy Dekker sure is showing some legs and balls in the UAE. Would be interesting seeing him in the classics I think. Also interesting to see what being the son of a top rider from the epo-era is going to do for his pr. Is there already another example in the world tour?

Rick Zabel? Probably a few others that I can’t remember also.

That's what it looked like to me. Either that or arse lost contact with saddle due to big finishing watts. Didn't look like a mechanical failure.

I thought that or hit his knee on the bars somehow? Either way it was a pretty ragged finish before he crashed.
The cloud of sand as he hit the deck was quite something -
• #31020
He was a little unlucky Bennett took the inside line just ahead of him, quite abruptly.

Mathieu van der Poel (not technically on a World Team...)
Nicholas Roche -

interesting discussion at the end of the cycling podcast this week on the implications of brexit for young british pros... basically saying the "90 days in 180 rule" is causing havoc for their prospects. worth a listen

Also the friends of the pod interview with Ellingworth is great. £15/year seems reasonable to me.

Excellant commentary by Kirby calling Vingegaard by his new alias Harper.

I was watching with the French commentary and they made the same mistake.
