sorry I missed this somehow. no, no idea what happened. one minute he was rolling along looking at his bars, next minute he was on the deck. looked like something might have failed on the fork? was odd anyway

My armchair analysis guess is that he might have slipped off the front of the saddle. Unexpected change of weight on his arms made him swerve. I know I've been close to doing it at the end of a race a few times.

They probably wouldn't be too quick to admit that, and the bike looked fine (as far as I could see in the few seconds afterwards). I hope they announce the reason whatever it was though

Don't want to be a chauvinist fanboy, but that boy Dekker sure is showing some legs and balls in the UAE. Would be interesting seeing him in the classics I think. Also interesting to see what being the son of a top rider from the epo-era is going to do for his pr. Is there already another example in the world tour?

That's what it looked like to me. Either that or arse lost contact with saddle due to big finishing watts. Didn't look like a mechanical failure.

I thought that or hit his knee on the bars somehow? Either way it was a pretty ragged finish before he crashed.
