Now that access to my loft is pretty easy I'm thinking it would be a good place to put my server and associated bits and bobs. Obvious issue is that I'd need a mains cable and network cable up there. The obvious is to run cables down the chimney breast to the ground floor fireplace where I can connect to existing mains and network. Chimney breast is capped so no risk of anyone lighting a fire in there. It's also end of terrace so no risk of drilling through to next door.
Two questions I guess:
If I drill a hole in this chimney, what are the chances of being able to let a wire down and it actually appearing at the bottom. There's no fireplace on the first floor.
Is there any reason to not do this. In particular any issue with what is going to be effectively a big mains extension lead going up the chimney?
