  • This. Everything mendable and easy availability of parts. Over 5 years of daily use I’ve replaced the carafe after driving off with it on the roof of my car and mended a stuck micro switch which was a piece of piss. No complicated electronics or superfluous functions to go wrong.

  • I initially misread that as you driving your carafe off the roof of your car. That was an excellent mental image

  • I started picturing the whole Moccamaster on top on his car 😂

  • My Mahlkonig Vario shat its pants yesterday, anybody else had a problem with theirs?

The LCD started going a bit funny a couple of months back, last week it stopped grinding halfway through a dose but came back to life after I gave it a couple of slaps...

I can buy a new display which includes new circuitry, etc and will hopefully fix the problem... Unless it's the motor, obvs... 😬

Anyone got any other bright ideas? I know there are a few Vario owners on here...

  • Motor brushes maybe? Are they checkable/replaceable on that? Or could it have a loose connection? Slap fixes usually point to a loose connection somewhere. Might be worth opening it up and see if it will run if you start pulling on wires and flexing the connectors. Hopefully it’ll help diagnose the problem.

  • I'll pull it apart tomorrow and have a poke around, a common problem is the hopper but that appears to be fine... I reckon it's either an electronics problem or the motor's gone, but I'm no expert...

  • Hopper deffo still locking in place? that would stop it working and is a common complaint
Hard reset? (turn off at the plug wait 2mins and turn on)
could be a stone jammed in the burrs?
    stripped belt on the gears?

Generally most of it is replaceable so hopefully ok

  • Not tried it but apparently you can get 25% off RRP for Sage stuff if you sign up to a Zoom demo

but also the codes are reusable - so try

  • Spam: I have a peak water jug with 4 spare filters that I am not using (space reasons).

Selling for £50 (same stuff is £90+ from Colonna)

  • N+1 for out n about coffee brewing ordered. Means carrying papers but flat-pack ability might be an advantage over the rivers dripper, whilst the gsi java drip leg clips don't work so well with my current travel cup so that's out of favour too.

Edit: I couldn't see it's dimensions but bonus if it'll be small enough to fit into the yb coffee tins.

  • I have one of these. It's decent though the tight angles make it pretty awkward to get a flat bed. Probably as good as it gets in terms of packability slash weight though.

  • cool! that will go nicely with your pocket stove. everything flat-pack from here on out.

  • Perfect! I can live without a flat bed, it's usually the case when it comes to my choice of pitch for the night too so good to be consistently inconsistent ;)

  • Gonna change my name to IKEA...

  • naked portafilter and vst basket = game changer no idea why I waited so long!

  • Impressed with this, brewing test this afternoon.

The d-bag it comes in will be useful for storing enough pre-ground coffee for a couple of days too.

  • In case it's of interest to anyone, Niche Zero are taking orders now for April delivery.

  • I just put an order in, Iberital MC2 up for sale in the near future ....

  • Yep, I’ll have a Mazzer Super Jolly (modded for single dosing) available soon too.

  • Used mine for a few weeks now and it's superb, changed my coffee completely. Highly recommend!

  • I've had my Niche Zero for over a year now and it's so good. Changed constantly between filter and espresso, never missed a beat. Very easy to clean too.

  • Sorry for spam, but is anyone on here using a peak water and want to buy some filters?

Sold my jug as we didn't have space for it and just found 3 replacement filters which I hadn't realised I had. They're £25 for 2 from Maxwell but happy with £20 for all three?

  • If you're happy to post then I'll take them.
