  • I found the basic Grave bars from planet X have really nice to ride with. Short reach and a nicer flat transition from the bars to levers. Really really comfortable bars so far on big long rides (60+ miles, but also comfy for short rides too!) and at only £15 atm it is worth a punt :)

  • funny enough i was looking at these because they look near identical to the Easton's i had, but i would like to make the nittos work, as they are VERY pretty

i have some time off later in the week so will take them on a local loop, see if the latest changes work, if not we will simply buy ugly bars

  • you could always get the 1000 grit sand paper out and polish the planet x bars! Sharpie Nitto prototype on there and no one would question you

  • except from god you mean??

  • He’ll respect the hustle

  • new bar angle, feels better, new bars at some point likely but will add it to the list of nice to do's. for now will just leave it alone after the mudguard escapade:

i think the biggest benefit of this bar set up is i can use my stem gps mount and attach my wizard works stem bag again

    long term nice to do's:

    new bars (modern compact, wide)
mudguards fitted in a non bodged manner
32 slicks instead of 35 knobblies

who knows, i think it's been quite fun making this into something it's not quite meant to be, at least fit wise, like an brexit crust bike, but definitely reaching the limits of what can be done without just buying a 57/58cm square frame with monster head tube from some boutique tiawan 4130 supplier.

  • congrats! how long before the auto upload to Strava over 5G kicks in?

  • i can upload my heart rate via ant+ now, i think route upload comes in the next firmware patch

  • been receiving more pics of the homer Simpson bike and it has inspired me to get round to setting stuff up so it can plug and play

first job was removing a perfectly fine esi grip to add the shifter and the left brake after its previous life as my rear brake only pomp. i'm sure all of you are familiar with how god awful getting these grips off is, i tried the zip tie memthod to no avail, i ended up just putting a spoke either side and drenching it in penetrating fluid.

with my measly upper body strength and some swearing they came off, putting them back on was a breeze since carrying hand-gel has been normalised, a quick lube up of some of nivias finest and it slid right on

next up was the cassette, not the most exciting or challenging job, which is nice, as i couldn't face failing another mechanic task after this week. What did shock me tho is the 10 speed cassette is all one piece, apart from the smallest 2 sprockets, was so nice and easy! again, nothing new to those pro-am mechanics out there.

the bike is going to have full external caballing to make it easier to lash bags on and off as I'm forever changing which pretty outfit my bike will wear for a ride round the lanes, they'll also be routed along the top tube and down the seat stay.

have some nice bright yellow cables for the brakes and some shiny metallic hose for the gears, it's conceptual you see :taps_skull:

the only thing really left to buy is a nice top cap and a chain keeper

  • Chopstick teased twixt the crack & a spray of isopropyl has always worked wonders on ESIs for me...

  • this would have probably beeen less fear inducing on scratching my bars

  • where is the NOS bottle going?

  • Between the two top tubes

  • Diff color brake and gear cables is very big brained I’m excited for the Homer bike

  • Exactly why is it called the Homer bike anyways

  • Just two?

  • leaving room for growth in the sequel

  • Fair, if you want I can make a frame bag to fit between the two top tubes.

  • i would be down for this!

    maybe in dark grey....with a 9 on....for uhhhhh.....reasons

  • Ooh ok, think that car featured in one of the video games. Looks a bit like a popemobile.
    👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Will it be the same colour as Homers one?

  • it will not be green unfortunately, only ideologically aligned in the sense of "cramming far too many useless features into a single frame set"
