  • the Pick is awesome. But youre gonna miss what a great tool and how versatile the cdf is!!

  • I know, I was torn.. but I've now had 2 CDF's and 2 Pickenflicks... The benefit of the Pickenflick is that I can run the larger 52mm (actual) tyres on the 650b wheels..

Not sure if I'll miss much else, I've been riding away at it for the past few months.. worst case I'll just sell the Ti frame and buy another steeler...

  • I’m kind of in the opposite boat. Love my CDF but I do wonder if a frame with more tyre clearance would be more useful to me. I’ll eventually get round to getting the chainstay crimps extended for more 650 clearance and maybe that will sway me one way or the other. Meanwhile I gaze longingly at my mate’s titanium tempest...

  • Yeah I know what you mean.. I wanted the larger tyres, so that swung it for me.. If anything the Ti is more useable as it's about 1.1 kgs lighter.. I may stick some 700c wheels in it with 32mm GK slicks for more road work, but I been out and done 40+ miles on roads with those tyres and it's great..

  • I’ve got a 650 wheelset with 47mm senderos on it gathering dust, while I’m slipping about through mud in 700x40s. If anything, it’s made me realise what you can handle on a bike like that with 40mm tyres. It’s be nice to just go full mtb tyres though sometimes!

I don’t really notice the weight, but then I had a straggler before the CDF :-)

  • Not a lot has changed on the past 8 months.. been riding the pickenflick, but decided I needed a cheaper bike to take away in the caravan with me.. something that could sit outside for a week in the rain.. That then turned into a Kaffenback build with 22 speed Ultegra on it.. Some cheap van bike.. Running 32mm tyres for sort of comfy road and maybe light trails when away in the van.. Tempted to build another cheaper bike now..

  • Since building the Kaff a few months back I realised it was too expensive to leave lying around caravan sites.. so sold it and then bought a cheap ribble 525... although it will only take 25mm tyres with guards and wanted something that would take 30-32mm to hit the odd fire trail when I'm away..

Then bought a Claud Butler Dalesman 531 super touring and got a Sora groupset off here.. so Ribble for winter duties and Claud for caravan duties.. Still got the Pick, Bianchi and Genesis Day-one..

  • I love that CB Dalesman! I was looking for one for a while and then settled with a similar Raleigh Royal.

  • you do some really spot on builds.
do your neighbours ever ask why you're taking photo's of different bikes out on the street?

  • I like it too.. I've ordered a larger rear cassette and also some 32mm gravelkings.. and have full SKS guards for it..

  • Thanks, yes I do get some comments.. they must think I'm mad.. It's a quiet road though..

  • Thread update.. my stable has been reasonably settled over the past while.. Just minor tweaks

    1. Pickenflick - 1 x 11 with now 2 sets of wheels - 650B 52mm and Gravelkings and 700c with 32mm Gravelkings slicks for road use - Added new aero gravel bars at Christmas, which seem good and nice on longer rides..
    2. Genesis Day-one - single speed - hasn't moved a great deal but always a stable go to bike..
    3. Claud Butler 531ST - Road this yesterday for the first time.. it was great.. I have swapped out the stem and bars with quill adapter - 60mm stem and planet x gravel bars.. I actually used a die grinder to remove the black paint so they are now silver and match the rest of the bike.. 2 x 9 Sora and it shifts great.. 30mm CX comp tyres - in the wild yesterday..
    4. Bianchi TSX - just swapped to tanwall Gravelking Slicks in 28c.. - hangs nicely in the playroom
    5. N+1 project bike - Old Zeus frame with 531 fork.. I have stripped this down, got a mate to shot blast it and am now going to attempt to paint it and build into a Single speed -possibly SSCX for the craic..
