Interesting - I’m not sure paint is the answer - I feel like dialling in the lighting - a nicer table chair / bench combo will sort the dining. Lounge is more layout / tv struggles. Plants will be a good addition I think.

In principle, Pete's right that building on MOL is highly undesirable. I haven't caught up on the policy changes that make it easier to build on it, so don't know about how safeguards are handled, but in general any such moves are a bad thing.

However, looking at the site, I think it is highly suitable for housing. It looks as if they're converting most of it into a kind of pocket park connecting to the (fenced-off) space of Nunhead Reservoir, with the block only occupying a narrow slice of it. I can't say I care much for the design (sorry, Al), but this certainly doesn't seem like a bad project.

Dining table is where a lot of homework and craft (and eating) happens - candles and low light for guests etc and such is cosy enough so focus is really on lounge side.

Maybe a low shelf/storage in front of window all the way from wall to door?
Plant, TV, lamp on it. Kids stuff inside, then you have more space on the table side?
Hang lamp over table lower with a cozy bulb.
Install indirect floodlight for lowlight craft sessions.
Agree with the votes for round table or rug.
Can what's in the hanging shelve go somewhere else?
Then you could have pictures there.

Defo plants. My middle room would prob be a little bleak if it didn’t have enough plants to be a kind of indoor garden.
Get the mrs one of those pianos that’s in guitar form, way cooler to rock out with, she will really appreciate that.

Yeah - all of this basically - round table is a maybe. The shelves were supposed to be for display - but in lieu of me figuring out other book storage have been co-opted. Also they are too high.

To be clear I wasn't making a judgement on this project. Generally opposed to building on MOL, especially given recent events and the increased value placed on access to green spaces.

The decision by dingbat Johnson to allow it has resulted in open land that should never be built on being put under attack from developers.

But if @Oliver Schick is OK with this project I probably am.

Standard scales 1:1 , 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:25, 1:50 etc. Sorta depends on room size . 1:20 or 1:50 i guess ?

No doubt it is my taste that is the problem here, but the idea of living with so little colour would make me feel constantly slightly migrainey I think...

Just goog Phillips hue starter set - crucially they do a wall switch thing accessory which remembers ‘scenes’ - i guess you just have to tape your existing switches to ‘on’ otherwise it could get a bit like the whole 3 remotes for one telly nightmare.

I’ll paint the other trip trap neon pink then - and crowd fund for a serif.

Yes, I'm very much opposed to a loosening of planning regulations, too. It generally has bad consequences--the planning system's obviously not popular with landowners who want to have the freedom to do with 'their' land whatever they please, and there's constant lobbying on that. A lot of land that's 'marginal' is designated MOL or Common Land and therefore has little value to speculators. When I first saw Al's post, those alarm bells definitely rang, but this is not overdevelopment (only a fraction of the site is actually used for the housing component), there has evidently been a constructive process of engagement, the land has genuinely been derelict and walled-off for a long time, it's surrounded by other housing of similar density, and there's an element of public amenity and linking that seems good (saying all this without having seen the full details). However, for cases like this you don't need general rule changes but occasional exceptions that confirm the rule.
