• I was having a browse around the map of covid stats by local authority this morning. The one that is here:

    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map

Was feeling pleased that our LA is belof 100 per 100k after being close to 1000 per 100k at the start of the year.

Does anybody know what is going on with the outlier lower tier LAs? Why would Pollards Hill have a case rate of 523/100k compared to their neighbours with 200/100k? Similarly for Harpur with 700/100k compared to neighbours with 100/100k. Same with Market Overton, Cottesmore & Empingham. Seems like some localised pockets of the country have really high case rates still.

  • When the areas get small enough the case rates become a bit meaningless.

Pollards Hill is 39 cases in a population of 7,500. It could be a local outbreak, or it could be random noise.
