Proper chuckles at shaving in to a mug

Manic sleep deprived iphone scrawlings here but whatever . Shitshow of a lounge. Is big space - with big window and ridiculous curtain. Doors to the garden beyond the table. Does not feel good to be in - in the evening particularly. Zero Cosy. This is for many reasons to do with clutter and mess which can be dealt with. But also to do with the layout and lighting. I have been moving the sofas around for 4 yrs.

Plan is big mirror on left hand wall behind the table. Probably bigger saucer pendant centred on table. Cabinet for all the kids craft stuff back left corner with table lamp on. The dining table is just 2.1x0.9m a slab of melamine ply and some Ikea trestles. We are down to one cesca copy, 2 trip traps and a stool - i m thinking a nicer base for the table and 4 matching chairs will be all we can do money wise and make that zone look better.

Sofas need to stay in this open position - we tried having them facing (one across the window) - it makes a cosy U shape perp to the table but exposes an ugly rad, limits view of the garden. So to up the Hygge or whatever my plan is a nicer TV stand, danish chair thing and lamp combo as scribbled - to define the open corner of the lounge. then lamp in back right corner. Phillps Hue bulbs maybe.

Could you do a built in seating along the wall with the radiator?
Having inconsistent seats makes the space feel a lil jumbled. Also feels quite angular? Square room, rectangle rug, table, corner sofa, big rectangle window

^Agree on the angular, I think a round table, 1.2m or so, would benefit the space. If you can live with it. In any case, I'd try lowering the pendant and would probably not be using it as primary lighting. I could see an articulated wall lamp above the sofas working out.
Something like a Flos 265, Anvia and Artimeta also made some nice ones.

yep - bench was planned, researched, designed in an almost 4 yr feedback loop. OH has vetoed . We'll see. 6 nice chairs tucked under neatly would be okay I think - better at least. Hear u about the angular - good point.

Yeah looks like it’s lacking a bit of focus and cohesion.
More lights to help zone it. +1 for the flos and hue lights. Also why no serif TV? Love the floor and the curtain.

Yeah - I lack focus and cohesion ! . OH just say we need to tidy up - which is fair but still I’m convinced there’s more we can do! The tv position is one of the most annoying things to reconcile . When the tiny Sony dies I will lobby hard for serif . Thanks re floor - standard issue battered parquet. Curtain was a decision - didnt ever think i would buy orala Kiley out of choice but it was the happy middle ground between plain and pattered also mid century vibe. Also 2k 😵- let this be a lesson to naive mid century purchasers of open plan and big glass .

Decide where you want the light at night and on gloomy days. Low level diffuse light sources in general will provide the softest/cosiest lighting but will be limiting for task light in the evening (reading on the sofa etc). Something on the ground/wall that can come overhead in the soft seating area will really help. You need dimming over the table at night and unless you're you want naked lamp (bulbs) 2008 shoreditch coffee shop vibes i'd be using opal sources.

If you're on a budget focus on the quality of light sources (bulbs) and the controls rather than the packaging. A good quality lamp in a paper shade or opal glass on a dimmer with no flicker wins everytime IMO.

And in case you're repainting keep the walls and ceiling a lighter shade.

This is great. Too austere for me too I think but loving certain bits of it, especially the pond/gutter drain and the statement fireplace/blue box!

My bath can't really be any lower, so yes :)

serif TV

Never heard of these before, but they look fucking amazing. They also don't look like they will date as badly as other "designed" TVs. A mate had this really cool white thing with a curved bottom back in the day... I can imagine it's aged awfully.

Although for some reason you don't seem to be able to buy the wireless ones in the UK. Maybe they're only sold to design bloggers.

I haven't been able to find out. Despite it sounding like an incredible feature no one seems to mention it.

Batteries was my guess.

Yeah this was designed by those french brothers who are decent.
Not sure if serious but all the promo pics are scams, they need at least a power cable (although that can be hidden a bit).
