This.
His predilection for young girls was hardly a secret. His treatment of woman in general dubious at best.
Yet he's held in high esteem as some sort of svengali figure. Especially on 6 music.
Incidentally, I also think Huey is a cunt.

Quite a lot of people involved in music seemed to be noncing around at the time. Doesn’t excuse it, but puts it into context.

Absolutely but name me one of them who is (still) revered as much as Peel?

Jimmy Paige
Other than them two, I highly doubt another rock musician was ever presented with an opportunity to have sex with an underage girl. It just seems such an unlikely scenario.

I always found teenage kicks a bit of a weird song

David Bowie, far more revered than Peel

I worked in the music industry and saw a lot of back stage stuff in the 1990s... the opportunities for anything with fans were in abundance to those in bands. Doe-eyed fans praising the musicians, fetching drinks, and giggling compliantly on their coat-tails were nightly occurrences on the road.
The vast majority of those I saw did say no constantly, but there were a few who I suspect indulged themselves at times when others weren't looking. Sometimes I'd see fans at the breakfast table in the morning and it was obvious to me that they didn't have a room of their own in the hotel (things like their outdoor coats at breakfast is a sign).
The opportunities... those were constant. Thankfully most people ignored and declined them.

Incredibly, MAH was just talking about JP crying when he played it.
Dread to think why.

Can’t stand that Staves song - satisfied that’s on repeat, It’s in my head all day.
Weirdly having it on all day I’ve now getting into synch in things like making cups of tea or staying dinner when either news comes on or a change of presenters. That or more probable I’m going slowly mad.

Kexp reggae show clashes with craig charles . Quite liking the stuff on purple radio or worldwide.

I’m with you on The Staves. I don’t get it - sounds like any number of forgettable late 90s singy pop muzak.

Idles are shite. Fight me.

Just another indie guitar band .

Really liked their first two albums but the third is unmitigated shite and the preaching and zaniness at the live shows gets old very fast.

Idles are shite
I've said it before

I think Dry Cleaning are going to get similarly dull very quickly as well, unless she starts singing on the second album (if they make one). The spoken word deadpan is fun and novel for a while and the music is groovy (man) and interesting, but I think one album will be enough of the current format.

Been locked into (yes MAH, I see you) invader.fm all week but was interested to see a Trip Hop special listed for Now Playing, I even suggested a track for it.
Missed the show then saw this comment on the fb Post about it...

MAH has the story about John Peel’s toothpaste and one about David Bowie wearing Issay Miyake.. I feel like I’ve heard each of these anecdotes on a fortnightly basis for a decade.
