  • The galibier winter gloves are good to about minus 2 . Fingers where getting a little cold this morning. Go up a size for a roomier fit but be less tactile.

  • A little tip for us taller folks who get a gap between sleeves and gloves. If you buy a cheap pair of arm warmers, you can punch a thumb hole in them and then we them under your gloves to provide a seal between your sleeves and the gloves. You also get an extra layer covering your firearms. It really helps keep your hands warm when it gets really cold. The Prendas knitted ones are good for this.

  • an extra layer covering your firearms

    Any close passes recently? :D

  • an extra layer revealing your firearms

    Rapha Holster range right there

  • I went with the nuclear option this morning. Rapha deep winter baselayer, merino jumper, transfer gilet, softshell jacket, winter bibs with windblock tights over the top, Craft lobster gloves, thermal skull cap, Gore overshoes.

Still couldn't feel my hands and feet after an hour riding, but the rest of me was very warm. It was nice.

  • Yeah, that's the point really...I don't have old winter kit to ride in and don't want to spend a great deal and then be worried about trashing it.

  • For all the middle class country shooters, hey I think it would work

  • I'm using these bad boys (fir about 4 winters now) and they kept my fingers toasty for 2 hours yesterday:

  • What size are you? I’ve got some old kit that I’m not using, happy to freecycle it if you’re around 40” chest.

  • That's a very kind offer, but unfortunately too big for me. Sorry for my delayed response.

  • Buyer beware = fake?

  • Yeah. When I first posted that link the photos showed a hat with a "go alpine" logo that looked very similar the the real "Lowe Alpine" logo

But the listing has now been changed and it shows a hat with the proper logo.

But it's still fake. The pictures its showing now are the exact same as the ones I found on another listing from another seller at a suspiciously low price.

  • This is what it was originally

  • Interesting as I got one from seller e.value a few weeks ago, seems legit and certainly very well made.

Just been to look at e.value items for sale again and he’s still got one but now it’s the exact Go Alpine photo above.....

  • I've found the lowe alpine hats for sale in a few places marked as "no tags".
Theres just no reason to have a load of hats without the tags if they are genuine.
The tubed rim around the skip peak looks a bit chunky compared to the real McCoy.
It being genuine gore tex seems unlikely at that price.

I've just looked at e. Seller and only see he has one item for sale - the hat with the proper logo

Having said all that I'm tempted but I think I'd rather spend and extra tenner for peace of mind!

  • I bought a Dell charger from eBay, apparently real and genuine, but it wasn't.

I asked the seller to return it, and eBay refunded me within 5 minutes without me having to return it.

It hasn't kept my head very warm or dry though

  • Yeah I think its widely known that ebay is full of fakes.

The Lowe Alpine hat does look to be fairly well made, but I've also seen plenty of other branded nike and adidas clothing complete with tags attached, all labels correct and holograph etc but they are in fact just very good fakes.

  • While I'm here...
I'm looking to sell my Ferrari btw, very low milage and great fuel consumption

  • @doubleodavey charging their laptop yesterday. Note warm ears.

  • It is certainly well made but definitely buyer beware as why would you have both legit and non-legit hats listed

  • Yeah doesn't make sense to have both listed.

So you got one at £20 recently via ebay? Have you worn it out on the bike yet? Seems decent?

With fakes of things like these, I sometimes wonder what the real difference would really be. The gore tex fabric for sure but I wonder about any real difference in functionality.
The real ones are no doubt made my kids in Cambodia...

edit - I see what you mean, I think these sellers are one and the same

  • I haven’t tried on the bike but have worn on a couple of very windy and chilly walks in the last week, one of 2 hours plus. It does seem well made, the fleecy lining is soft and comfortable and it certainly did the job as I was cozy and dry.

Worth £20? I guess it probably is. But it isn’t as claimed and Amazon have an OEX one that doesn’t look too dissimilar at way under £10. But I guess I only have my greed for an apparent bargain to blame

  • Real Torm or fakes? Seems way too good a deal to be true, but they shop out of the same region Torm is made in, and the seller has low stock in random sizes like an outlet.

  • Not clothing but I sold a 3T Rotundo Ltd handlebar in a couple of hours on eBay for £75. Possibly down to the price being low but I suspect that partially it was because I took photographs of all the serial numbers that the fakes don’t have- so despite my bars having adhesive residue on them the buyer knew they were genuine.

But maybe they were just way too cheap- I’m open to that.
