  • Borrowed an Impreza Sti for an essential journey today.

My god, it's like driving a Gatling gun.

  • Pondering posting this in Epic WTF - went for diesel today - 120.9p per litre. Two weeks ago it was 114p per litre.

    Stealth increase?

  • @Soul agree with you on the name...

...need to watch the video to confirm your second statement however.

  • Probably because no one is travelling and buying fuel. Forecourts still cost money to run so prices rise to ease their pain.

  • Good work fella👍

  • Could be right I suppose.

  • None of Jethro’s words have made you think you should have left yours well alone then?

  • He’s extensively modified his and is rebuilding his engine in a similar (although far less extensive) manner to what we are doing.

  • A grey suit and a cap and you've got a decent source of income there! I'd never previously been in one and remember just how plush it was on the back seats, like sinking into your favourite sofa.

  • Hoping this is the right thread for this but looking for some inspiration on a ULEZ friendly estate for circa £7-8k. Just sold my S3 8L and I'm genuinely lacking in ideas. Don't want anything too old - think 2008ish the furthest I want to go back, want something vaguely quick too.
    Current shortlist is:
Alfa 159 Ti tbi (couple on eBay I'm considering giving a call about)
A4 3.2 Avant (missed the perfect one in January on eBay, still fuming)
330/335i touring M sport (bit meh and nice ones don't seem common)

Oh, and off my own topic but just to contribute a bit of aesthetics - this is my 53 80" Series One that I lightly restored a few years ago - my grandfather bought it in the late 50's, it sat in a hedge since the 70's and I, against the clock, managed to get it up and running in time to drive him to his 90th.

  • If you need a hand my mate owns RR london a range rover specialist .they have done projects like your car.

  • Audi A4 2.0T sportine or A6 storyline are nice and cheap. Very well built

  • I have considered this - but spoke to a friend who is an Audi mechanic (and did a bit of googling) and some of the TFSI engine codes (1.8 & 2.0) from 08-10 has some notorious oil guzzling tendencies, especially after 100k. So I'm holding out for a 3.2 I think.
A shame as I really fancied an Allroad too.

  • Cheers - I used to live near RR London as it happens, they always had some lovely bits outside.
The Series One is finished as is though. I've kept the paint as it came out of the weeds, bar some oiling but entirely rebuilt the engine and running gear.

  • That's nice to have in a car collection I saw your mk2 Gti 16v.very nice car .had one back in the day. I work for VW .Which audi does your mate work for I might know the VAG network is very close

  • I've heard that about audi engine drinking a bit off oil.vw lumps are fine.

  • Suspect that there is suppliers controlling fuel production, after learning the mistakes from previous lock downs and having excess fuel and no where to store.

Or diesel fuel is used as heating fuel so cold snap taking up production?

  • Nope, same lump same issues. Engine come off the same lines.

VW group engine reliability is quite hit and miss in the last decade.

  • I need my wife to pluck up the courage to drive it so I can go in the back.. I’m getting the sunroof fixed and will then be advertising the car for weddings, funerals, picnics etc! Out of interest how much are you paying? Sorry rude question- I was thinking of maybe £250/£300 for 3 hours or so...

  • That landy is perfect. Good job.

  • Sounds like my kind of picknick. Magnifique DS you got there!

  • We got married back in 2007...IIRC was about £250-£300 then but the owner drove from Birmingham to Wollaston so significant mileage and about 5 hours of his time.

  • 156 GTA Sportwagon?

  • Now that is the perfect restoration IMHO. Looks like a a landie should.

  • Do it, sorted suspension and they drive like a magic carpet ride.

PS Get a free meal out it, if you can.

EDIT: maybe check how you can make the car tax advatagoeus ;)
