Do it.

I really want one.

Someone on a forum somewhere made their own while their extension was being built. Not that expensive, but more than you'd expect to diy.

Also (not) interestingly they are technically staircases and don't need planning.

Well one of those ones up ^^ costs about £50k so even an expensive DIY option will be a fair wedge cheaper (are you talking about the one from the wine society forum?)
