  • It’s a place we are moving into. There is a programmable time clock on the (Baxi) boiler. Current place is a flat with a portable wireless thermostat, now my partner is working from home the room stat is the controller for the heating in the office and the trvs in the other rooms are set accordingly.
In a 3 story Victorian property I think we need a system that is at least thought out. Home office in the top floor, kitchen and main living space on the ground floor.

Luckily the turbo will be in the basement with no heating.

  • If you are buying the place, the boiler will die in about two years time as is the fashion then you'll have the opportunity to get it re-done properly :)

You could upgrade the existing controller with something like Tado or Nest.

But unless you want highly specific control of certain rooms at certain times, i.e. because you aren't using them or they are a child's bedroom and you want the radiator to be able to call for heat a timer and dumb TRVs is adequate. Or get a mix of dumb and smart TRVs and put the smart TRVs in the rooms you use the least so they can shut the heat down completely when they are empty.
