  • That was kind of what I thought - I thought something like JBL control 1 probably suitable (if a bit on the large side compared to the ideal for the room).

Just wonder how good / bad they'd be and whether I'd regret not having something better if I use the system when I'm not on the turbo...

  • Thanks. Well chuffed with it. Some old JBL:s would be neat but these old Omars with Kef bits sound great.

  • Chet Baker and single origin filter coffee on a snowy Sunday morning. Perfect.

  • nice socks

  • Lovely stands, are they homemade?

    Like the asymmetric fireplace too.

  • What budget? We have a Bang & Olufsen Beolit 20 which has amazing sound for the size and price. Battery powered too so you can take it with you as well

  • Thanks - looks good, but I am currently using a Loewe speaker to go in that room which is pretty good (and covers the battery powered angle), but wanted to upgrade to something more permanent. I already have an unused Allo miniBoss plus so I just need to hunt some speakers for a small second system!

  • I have the HK Go + Play and quite enjoy the sound in the workshop. Some say it’s a little boomy but with it’s twin drivers the sound is more akin to an old boombox (ergo) than a typical Bluetooth speaker.

Ah, didn’t see your last post.

  • Just scored these boys, looking forward to them arriving. Due to WFH rearrangements I’m close to sealing the deal on getting the TV out of the living room and just have the stereo in there which will free up placement options no end.

  • Wonderful. Grew up with a pair of LS3/LS5a's in my living room and I have fond memories of them. Never saw them without grilles though. Probably says a lot about how much my dad trusted my sister and I.

  • Ah nice, are those the BBC monitors?

  • They are indeed. He still has them somewhere along with this Cyrus Two and power supply, but they've been replaced by a KEF surround sound system, much to my dismay. I have distinct memories of how good the notched volume nob felt. Hmmmm.

  • Nice! I have a pair of the same, not sure mine are in as good condition though...

  • Oh wow, what a lovely system!

  • Ah cool, there’s something boffiny about them to me, like I should be wearing a tie and a white overall while listening to them.

  • Yep, just a stop-gap until I eventually get around to making new cabinets and matching stands. Think the left section of the chimney breast is the flue for the fireplace in the room below. I like the asymmetry too.

  • Very nice condition!

  • I had a Cyrus 2 and power supply hooked up to some dynaudio 52 . Loved them! But ive gone to a digital set up, so they're boxed up now. I do kind of miss that system, including the notched volume knob

  • I should sell them really, but can't quite bring myself to do so

  • what do you have in your digital setup ?

  • A Mac mini with Audirvana, connected via USB to Kef x300a active speakers. Also connected to a pair of XTZ tune 4 in the kitchen . I'll eventually get a small sub for the kitchen too.

  • They sound as nice as they look. I’m onto some short box-steel stands to lower that one down.

  • What should I do with excess speaker wire? Does it make any difference? I don't want to trim it as I may move stuff around.

  • What kind of audiophile are you that doesn't have a manual on cable management to refer to :)

I use the new plastic velcro stuff and I wouldn't object to excess coiled up behind the speaker. If they are not in a mess around power cables that probably helps to stop them acting like aerials.
