  • I know British lads are going mad on these Trimbles but for me it's just an expensive ugly bike... Don't get the idolatry.

  • As a rough guide, what sort of frame size would a 6’3” person want to be looking at for a rigid 90s 26er?
Might build a mate up something and I’ve seen a nice frame that’s apparently 58cm too tube x 57cm seat tube.

  • Could work but will need a long (140-150 mm) stem, I guess.

  • Size wise approx 21-21,5".

  • So is that a bit on the small side for my mate? 58cm is about 22.5” I think.
I’m 5’8” so this is way outside my own frame of reference :-)

  • You may already know this and just be goofin', but "FTW" is "Frank The Welder," a dude who's famously done a lot of production aluminum welding work for various MUSA brands.

I had a chance to buy one of those stems for dirt cheap a while back and very much regret not doing it.

  • I believe there isn't anything larger than that... I ride 18-19" so no references either. But a friend of mine used to ride 21,5" (largest size Scott had back in 1991) and he was 6ft3".

  • You may already know this

    Nope! Cheers for enlightening me.

  • ^ what @WimVDD is saying here. That.

I'm 6' 3" and ride a 58cm top tube Marin with a 130mm stem/riser, plus humungous seatpost and it always feels like I'm a couple of cms shy of just right - shoulda got a setback seatpost, d'oh.

(obviously, if you build your mate the same frame with drops, everything changes).

  • I am 6' 5" and ride an old Muddy Fox with a 24" seat tube, would have to measure the top tube.

  • Cheers all. I reckon this frame I have my eye on would work. It’s going to be a pootler so it sounds like it should work ok with an upright position. It’s also bright pink, which lets face it, is more important than the bike fitting him...

  • 800mm motorcycle bars, they happen to be 22mm clamp which fits a BMX stem.

Got them from eBay, they're cheap ones.
    Search "motorcycle enduro bars"

  • Nice one I thought so , I’d been looking at the same ones after seeing the Stridland ones

  • Hi all, looking for GT steel frame (around 16-18in) for my retro project.
any other makes are welcome too! :)

    cheers!

  • Hello,
By any chance, any of those is for sale? :)

    I'm 187cm and my Klein Attitude is a 22":

And here's a modern bike for reference (both of these have the saddle at the correct height for me, other controls in the right place etc):

  • Klein Attitude

    Stunning bike.

  • Shall we plan a retro-MTB ride for summer? Give me something to look forward too and a reason to get the Attitude out.

  • Make it a weekend and I might leave Europe for it. 😉

  • Well, we could do a two day SDW ride, weather permitting
