• My 2010 MacBook Pro needs a new drive. Had an SSD put in a couple of years ago and it is now failing.
The shop says I have 3 options for repairs.
    1 - replace drive
2 - in addition, OS install
3 - in addition, data recovery
I have a recent complete backup available, would I need 2 or 3?

  • What kind of backup do you have? Time Machine?
If so, the new (blank) drive needs a (mac)OS on it to receive your TM backup.

  • If you have a back up and the SSD is fucked, just replace it yourself. Its a canter then just back it up off the complete back up you have and save yourself some money.

Old macs are so easy to change drives.
