  • Appreciate I could google this and get confident with an answer looking at a few sources but easier to ask here and I very often get good advice here so here goes:
Maintaining fork and dropper stanchions. I keep my bike clean, but so far have never actually oiled/lubed/treated the stanchions. Is there a forum approved product? Cheers

  • Don't be fooled into thinking that people maintain their forks!

There's a product called HyperWiper - use that.

  • I will probably send my fork and shock to Full Factory Suspension at the end of winter for a service.

  • I use the oil TFTuned sent me after they serviced my suspension. Seems to be working well. No idea what it is.

  • Is there anything worse than having to cable an internal dropper on a frame with no internal guides? That DT to ST angle is so acute to get the housing bent over it.

Also a dropper I bought on pinkbike (works fine) has a weird cable end, none of the cables work, I had to file down an MTB brake cable with this kind of cable end to make it fit into the barrel:

  • 14psi for Croydon's finest gnar last night. Mud spikes aren't great for hard snow...

  • Whereabouts around Croydon are you riding? I've got a regular loop round Chelsham / Warlingham / Woldingham (actually from someone here's Strava years ago) but could do with finding something new.

  • You possibly need something like this

  • And jagwire do a pro dropper cable set thats meant to make things easier. Soon I'm going to be fitting a cable dropper to a frame with no internal guides as well so I'd appreciate any tips as i just thought it was going to be an easy job but the amount of times I've said that. My reverb has just been too unreliable and was looking at a dvo garnett but if anyone has had issues with one of those or really rates anything else I'd like to check them out.

  • I'm staying with my parents in Sanderstead at the moment and have been riding round here on and off for probably 30 years. Chelsham etc is good for CX/gravel IME and there are plenty of tracks criss-crossing if you take random turns and explore. I don't have strava so can't share I'm afraid.
Addington Hills, Croham Hurst and Spring Park are all good in winter apart from the crowds during the day. Gravelly soil drains really well compared to the chalky clay further out!

  • Remove forks and BB and it'll be much easier.

  • fuck me, I am stupid!

  • Forks is a good shout! Done already now though.

    BB is pressfit ☠️

  • You have a pressfit BB and no tools to mainatin it? Are you going to pay the shop to clean it everytime it start creaking after a ride in the rain?

  • I need to buy tools, I have issued a ban on shops.

What would you recommend from aliexpress? its PF92 (Trek).

  • KCNC BB that screws into itself and a lot of carbon assmbly paste. EDIT that was the wrong link. Just get any threaded together PF92 BB.
You'll save money on the BB press aas you won't need one.

  • You recommend the KCNC BB? Do you mean the assembly paste on the interface thats flush. with carbon shell not threads right?

  • Yep I had KCNC BB on one of my bikes and had zero creaking, wheel MFG make one too but it costs 3x as much as KCNC. Assembly paste on the shell, thread lock on the threads. You will not be replacing the shell, just bearings in the future.

  • Hmm I cant find a KCNC that has the thread interface:

  • Do you mean Token?

  • No I had a KCNC one. Sold it with the frame so can't check it now. Token is super pricey.

  • A friend of mine bought a Zitto BSA bottom bracket and it was useless. Bearings were shit and the alu was about as soft as Old Gouda.

  • I dont mind getting that Token Ninja, 45 quid and comes with tools
