Get Apex 1 for about the same money, 11 speed, more capacity.

I can highly reccomend going on a "gravel" ride with a geologist... we rode a lot of Schist on our 100k.

I tried that before, and wasn't massively impressed by the breaking power. The brakes were possibly a bit fucked/ set up badly though.

@mind_maze didn't think of that, it's 2x only isn't it, and a different cable pull to 11sp

Yeah it's a bit confusing... new shimano 10 speed (Tiagra and GRX) use the same actuation ratio for the rear derailleur as 11 speed, so you can use an 11 speed mech if you like... but this means that the cable pull of the levers are different to the old 10 speed.

So one option would be GRX 10 speed levers, GRX 11 speed long-cage rear derailleur, wide range 10 speed cassette (e.g. Deore) (but double check that!)

Ah yeah, this is what I had figured out previously, but I doubted myself! I have 2x wide range 10sp cassettes already so loathed to make them waste, but it still might be throwing good money after bad seeing as I'd need shifters, brakes and mech

interesting although not sure you'll ever get anything down bike brake hoses without a bleed kit.
