  • Think the change of coach in Silverwood has made the job for Root a lot easier; seems to share the load a bit more in terms of general team management, compared to Bayliss who seemed far more laid back.

    Bat once, bat big etc.

Time to make some chai, still can't help but grin

  • This little club is right 'up' there in terms of location. The view behind you is lovely. An afternoon on the veranda of that club house must be pretty much perfect. Also, if you live in Dorking you can ride down the Summer Lightning Trail all the way home. There are road and gravel bike alternatives to suit your disposition too.

One of the things that really makes a small ground IMO is the ones with no road noise. This must be one of the best for that in South East too. I have a hankering to move to Dorking for the reasons outlined here and this club will be top of my list. Hope its not exclusive to coldharbourians!

  • There’s a lovely downhill run to the boundary on that batsman’s off side. It’ll be good for your batting figures playing there.

  • If this thread is anything to go by then interest/minutes watched for this test must be well up.

  • What time are the highlights?

(waiting for the scheduled programme, in the spirit of free-to-air cricket)

  • Yeah, it’s just lovely. No roads nearby at all, but down the track into the village there’s a nice pub. The trail up to the top of the hill runs right alongside it, that’s my wife just up ahead.

  • Right now, that image has the ability to make it very dusty in here.

  • Just catching up with the highlights on the last day of India vs England. That spell from Anderson is just remarkable. He really is a class act.

  • The next hill along has a similar set-up:

    You'd be spoilt for choice!

  • Archer out of the second test, closest like for like replacement I guess is Stone, seems a big risk, so guess it is 2 out of 3 of Anderson, Broad and Woakes.

  • Common sense would say like for like with Stone. Far too samey if they just go with Broad and Anderson for the sake it.

  • Yeah, I do worry about not having the X factor pace, bet they are wishing they didn’t send Wood off for a rest. Could see them bring Woakes in to even further strengthen the batting.

  • Would be interesting how Woakes would fare - he's been so consistent at home. Probably deserves a chance on the subcontinent but would he just get carted round?

Is Sam Curran even in the squad?

  • Also given than Lawrence hasn't pulled up many trees yet, could you parachute Ali in at 3 and as third spinner? It's a massive risk but you wouldn't lose many runs dropping Lawrence.

  • Nope Curran not in the squad either. They have Mahmood and Robinson as reserves, but not sure if they are only Covid reserves.

I did wonder about Ali coming in, would certainly add to the bowling attack, but think it would be a little harsh on Lawrence, I reckon he will get one more test, if he doesn't do much I suspect Crawley will come back in for the third test assuming he is fit.

  • Yup. Same here...

  • Ah, that must be a bit hidden as I've not happened upon the pitch to date.

Edit - I have actually, but only in the winter when it's doesn't look so appealing!

The other nice one is at Abinger Hammer. You can sit with your feet in the Tillingbourne with a beer from the shop. We take the kids for a paddle after warmer walks in the summer. Shame about the main road behind though.

  • Ali needs to come in and focus on his bowling without the pressure of batting three. I’d give Leach or Bess a rest and let them soak up what they’ve learned.

I reckon Woakes could make that ball talk when it’s reversing but when the pitch is flat and the ball has gone soft, he’ll struggle.

  • Well Bess is also rested, so looks like Ali is coming in as second spinner. If they play him and woakes then we do bat very deep. Anderson also rested, so guess Broad definitely plays.

  • Sounds like Bess is dropped rather than rested, 19 full tosses didn't exactly help his case.

Suspect we'll see Stone instead of Woakes, more pace etc. Pitch looks like a stinker though...

  • Pitch looks like a stinker though...

    How so? Slow/fast/flat?
