Fair enough, she’s put it through as business expense so she may as well buy one that’ll not have any issues with throttling

Can you access the disk via target disk mode?

Skimmed through it. What a shitshow.
Backup kids. Then backup your backups.

Thinking about getting an old Mac to run Zwift on in the paincave. will just be that and internet for tv. Whats the minimum spec I need? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance -
• #17382
Yeah exactly. iCloud Drive and then everything in your documents folder. I’ve switched macs about 5-6 times in the last 5 years and I’ve barely noticed as everything syncs.

Spoke to Apple support yesterday. They told me to install Mavericks on a USB drive and boot into that. 🤦🏻♂️
Mavericks doesn’t even support APFS. Ffs.Thanks for this article. Sounds like I need to buy a thunderbolt cable in a last ditched attempt to get anywhere.

Apple support, like most support, is useless... if you are East London based I have a spare cable you can borrow, if you want to save a couple of quid.

I think you can get away with an Apple TV

What are the odds for an M1X / M2 processor at some point this year? Most sites seems to agree it will happen.
-
• #17387
Very high. They're going to bring ARM to more models and there are various reasons they can't use the same M1 - RAM limits, port limits, GPU performance, etc.
I wouldn't expect hugely better single thread performance than the M1 though, and I don't expect the M1 models to be updated, at least not before the very end of the year.

I think the most recent rumours are expecting the 14" and 16" pros with new processors and updated designs at the end of Q1 this year even. Which is in like 2 months

Bring it on. New iMac as well please.

@snappyandrew
Apple TV 4k works fine. That's what I used to do.
Though they'll be releasing a new Apple TV pretty shortly so I'd wait for that.Apple TV doesn't have a web browser though, so what I've done since is ditch the Apple TV and just mirror iPad to TV with AirPlay.

yep exactly - however - my FIL just dropped round an old clicky clacky white one so i'm not in such dire straights - but saying that, its pretty hard to type on ... how much would you part with+post it for ?

It's in excellent nick, so how does £30 plus whatever your preferred postage method costs? I don't think I have the box any more, but I can sandwich it in cardboard.

Get this and you'll be set for life
Bought a set little over a year ago and been surprised at how good it is to have around, found loads of random gubbins to fix that I would've given up on otherwise

• #17398
hmmmmm!

Do it. The quality is really great and the screwdrivers themselves are very well designed. They get 5 stars everywhere for a reason.
The bits has been better than some wera and dewalt bits I have
-
• #17400
I have a smaller (54 bits I think) set from iFixit too and I have zero regrets. I already opened my MacBook, iPhone, most of my lenses, my camera etc etc. just because I have the possibilities
Went to upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur.
Big Sur install fails due to full disk - still allowed installer to run. Sigh.
Big Sur got far enough to nuke Catalina so no going back (I think)
Cannot unlock drives with known passwords.
Recovery keys not working either.
Suspect Big Sur has caused mismatch in expected auth path.
New M1 MacBook Pro arrives Monday and I’ve now lost all of my data.
Fuck Apple updates. This is my second bricked device is as many updates. Last time it was a iMac and it took 2 weeks to figure out recovery.
