It never ceases to amaze me how much of US "cooking" is actually mixing together of processed items. So seldom a fresh ingredient in sight.
Groceries are so expensive in the States, to put in perspective a tube of toothpaste costs like $8. It's much cheaper to eat fast food, even if it is something on the more healthier side.
