I had a similar realisation recently. My Mum gave me £100 in a Christmas card in 2019 and only just spent the last of it last week!

I had this the other day - my partner left a fiver on the side in the kitchen and I spent a good few seconds looking at it and thinking “wtf is this” until I realised it was cash.

Just received a new £20 note in a birthday card, the first time I've seen one. It was launched a year ago in Feb 2020 and I've realised I haven't touched cash except the pound coin for a supermarket trolley in nearly a year.
