Yeah - figured it wouldn’t affect it but you never know.

I meant comparatively, ie for the level of features etc.

Is it also possible to run slightly different size blades in a track saw?

In my experience complacency is the reason stuff goes wrong with dangerous equipment.
Very true, bur I stumbled past this review a few nights ago.
It's kind of compelling

Nice. I’m jealous.
Wish I had a garage I could turn into a woodwork shop. -

Amazing footage of the gizmo doing its thing.

That’s incredible but the Jackass guys would have made a better video in my opinion.

It’s the thing I love most about the house. Had a little shed in Bromley but it was largely useless.

You could run say a 160mm blade if its specced for a 165mm, but it would affect your depth marker so not ideal. I would personally stick to the size its specced for. Bear in mind you'll likely have to shift your splinter guard if you change blade types as the kerf will be slightly different. Also if the saw has a riving knife, obviously don't go thicker. Makita use thinner kerf blades than most of the other brands which leads to a faster/easier cut, but I would have thought at the expense of more blade deflection.

Just received one of these sets, the quality feels so much above my old bosch jobby, and if the impact driver works as well as the makita one atk lent me I'll be over the moon.

Yes, sounds like not worth changing the blade size.
Just taken delivery of an Erbauer which comes with a 185mm, 48t, 2.2mm kerf and 20mm fixing bore. Problem is I now realise that Screwfix, and no one else, seems to sell the exact replacement blade. This is the closest I can find - https://www.amazon.co.uk/TCT18580T-Saxton-Circular-Makita-Dewalt/dp/B01MSZEX56/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QM34AV0FX0ZF88DACBCC
This and the fact that the rails don't seem to be perfectly flat makes me wonder if I shouldn't be swapping it for something else. How big a deal is 0.2mm increased kerf?
-
• #27139
The one you linked has a 30mm bore and reducing rings - I would avoid that if at all possible, they are a PITA.
80T is too much for a blade that size IMO. If they do a 40-48T that would be my choice for all round use.
0.2mm increase in kerf, I doubt you would notice, its possible the motor might struggle with deeper cuts. I doubt it would foul internally but best to check your manual on the max recommended kerf is.
When you say the rails aren't flat, if they curve away from your workpiece under their own weight, I would say that's no good. If you can return, this could be your opportunity to avoid a lot of hassle.

Fortunately I can easily return it. Bit annoying but good learnings - seems like a waste of money if you can't get replacement blades.
One of the rails is flat, the other is more like a banana.
There's a DeWalt Dws 520 with two 1.5m rails going second hand not too far away, might be worth having a look at ?
Impressive knowledge btw, what's your background?

80T is too much for a blade that size
80 tooth blades that size are great for crosscutting or small chopsaws as it will minimise tear-out and chipping without the hassle of making a 0 clearance insert or backing the workpiece. If you try ripping with one unless the wood is very dry the blade will clog and generate enough heat to dull it almost instantly. Would be ok for MFC.
@ILB erbauer may be a Screwfix brand. It's certainly only sold in the UK by Screwfix (no idea if it even exists outside of the UK). So it's likely that they are taking a leaf out of evolution's book and dropping the price of a saw because only they are able to supply hassle free blade changes (in much the same way that razor blades often cost 2x as much as the actual razor). With regard to the track; you bought a precision tool if you don't think it's precise take it back and get another one or something a bit better. Edit I see you've already decided to take it back.

I can see that being a good way of recouping costs, but even in the Screwfix Q&A they admit that they don't stock a replacement blade. Seems mad to me. Still, at least I haven't used the thing before finding out.
-
• #27143
Didn't catch that.
Another reason to take it back is that you need to join 2 of the tracks to cut across a sheet of ply and the tracks supplied won't cut the length of a sheet. This is severely limiting to say the least.

I have a simmilar story - I was working for now-defunct Carillion, we were doing a load of new build work on a north london military base. They couldn't / wouldn't provide any ug services drawings for security reasons, so every time the excavators / groundworkers hit a cable or pipe, we had to tell the base, they made everyone go away and their own Royal Engineers teams erect a massive shield around it to hide the action, fixed and / or reburied it but in secret location elsewhere.

• #27145
Would they not even let you use an rd 4o00 or cat/gennie? I'm not sure I'd sign onto any RAMS in that situation.

What's the next project you're doing? You must have something planned if you're buying a table saw.
-
• #27147
That's not how my tool buying works. See it, want it, buy it, work out what to do with it later.

Re-making my TV unit is top of the list.
Then a new record storage unit and some fitted drawer for a wardrobe.
I think the wife wanted a ‘sofa table’ at the back of the sofa to hide wires from Ayla.
Also tempted to make some floating bedside tables to clean up the bedroom.

Kept on going and built a trolley for all my backgrounds in the studio. I thought that 2x4" was going to be a bit OTT but I have a lot of laminates and random sheets from set builds and loaded up it weighs a ton.

Does anyone want a couple and a half of bags of NHL3.5 lime? Before it goes the way of the dump...collect from N5.
Also, c.12m of 12mm ufh pipe. the aluminium kind so stiff so could be used in the garden?
