Six weeks out from Shimano 100th anniversary and probable launch of next Dura Ace.
Will Chris's concerns suddenly be addressed?
-
• #30728
Yeah I was slightly cynically thinking along these lines
-
• #30729
Ooowe. Juicy. That’d be smart.
Addition: Engineering/physics response to Froomey and DA updates.
-
• #30730
lets hope not, plus pros will ride whatever they are given and have mechanics etc etc
-
• #30731
I'm with 'dog on this one, would love some non-rubbing disc brakes

No more TT position on the bars https://twitter.com/laflammerouge16/status/1358759721382076417

Weird with this much honesty. I like it
-
• #30735
this was just developed for riding like that, guessing sales will be meager :-/
-
• #30736
Froome's arms couldn't cause a paper bicycle to flex enough for brakes to rub.
-
• #30737
This is allowed, holding to the hoods with flat forearms. It’s resting your arms on the flats and having your hands out by your garmin that is being banned I think.

• #30738
This is the twitter detail - pretty vague, but then I haven't studied article 1.3.008.
Maybe the key is a single point of support?
-
• #30739
Translation: supertuck and puppy paws. Hirshi’s fucked.
Holding hoods with horizontal forearms is fine.
-
• #30740
I wonder how many pros have spent the winter training in puppy paws position
-
• #30741
I guess this means the end of Rowe and the like draped over the front of the bike pulling the peloton along as well though
-
• #30742
I read it as the stupid Willem Van Schipp (?) bars being banned as they require the forearms to be supported by the bars.
-
• #30743
Which I think is a shame. I’m a fan of puppy paws unless within a group.
Supertuck is also fine if alone IMO.
-
• #30744
Banning puppy paws makes little sense to me. It just isn't dangerous on closed roads and people only do it when on the front / in the wind. I think they don't like the head unit as mini aerobars look though, but surely you can just keep an eye on head unit mounts to make sure no one takes the piss.
The super tuck ban I'm fine with. Anything that makes descending more dangerous seems sensible to ban before the accident rather than afterwards.

Don’t watch this then: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fJSpgRIVw78
I don’t understand the fundamental issue with supertuck. Is it the speed that’s achievable in the position that presents the problem? If so, introduce a speed limit.
Riders appear to be in control in supertuck, with full access to brakes.
Supertuck allows a tall rider to achieve a similar aerodynamic profile to a small rider. There’s a case to be made that the UCI is being heightist.
Could these rules get the UCI cancelled?
-
• #30746
If so, introduce a speed limit.
Wait, what? It’s a race. How the hell would you enforce it? What sanctions would you incur for breaking it?
-
• #30747
That’s my point. Banning supertuck is like banning trying to win.
I do support banning it in a group, I guess. But descending alone, it’s your risk to take in exchange for speed.
-
• #30748
Ha. I can't watch those videos anyway! It's like those longboard drift videos. I'm just waiting for the car to clean them out.
-
• #30749
You can't ban something in a group but not on your own. How do you define a group? Also it could provide an advantage to chasers.
I thought the jury was out on whether it is an advantage anyway.
-
• #30750
I do support banning it in a group
How would that work though? How many metres before you're allowed to supertuck. what if someone is gaining on you?
Yalla!
