Now I want a Long Haul Fucker in the "virus-ridden fleshbags" colour scheme.

You only notice gaps in big range cassettes when you're riding consistent speed on the tarmac.
and all the flat gravel stuff.
Both of which can be a LOT of the time spent on a gravel bike.
For chain security you can't beat that trusty FD. Also, I don't think I've ever "maintained" a front mech, save for the odd time I've thrown a different size chainring on a bike (or the neighbours road bike) so that's a non-issue.
Wider range of gears with better chainline in more of them are better for gravel.

It's not the FD, it's the system. It's an extra cable/wire to change and chainrings that are more sensitive to wear than a chunky NW

I don't use cables any more and don't use NW stuff but I'm pretty sure cables will work longer than a gravel chain and Di2 doesn't wear at all.

London doesn't have any hills (or gravel for that matter).

I get about 800 miles out of a 10 speed chain on my 1 x 10 mountain bike. I get 2000+ miles out of a chain on my 2 x 10 mountain bike (and on my 2 x 11 Gravel bike). Which corresponds to lower chainring wear. I think its because of better chain line and lower torque due to a lower gear in the 2 x 10.
Happy with both systems though. Like the simplicity of 1 x 10 for local blasts, prefer 2 x 10 for longer multi-day rides.
Anyway thought gears were booked in for March?

No gear ratio chat for 2021?
-
• #16471
we might have exhausted the gear ratio chat but could bake some contingency into the schedule if required - might need to allow some leeway for discussion on ekar too, if anyone ever manages to get a hold of it

• #16472
heh - thats why I am still running 10 speed. Two bieks were last used in 2019 - getting good wear out of those...

Will September include flare? Look forward to discussions on whether technical descents should be taken on the hoods or the drops
