• I don't think I've ever "maintained" a front mech, save for the odd time I've thrown a different size chainring on a bike (or the neighbours road bike) so that's a non-issue.

    It's not the FD, it's the system. It's an extra cable/wire to change and chainrings that are more sensitive to wear than a chunky NW

  • I get about 800 miles out of a 10 speed chain on my 1 x 10 mountain bike. I get 2000+ miles out of a chain on my 2 x 10 mountain bike (and on my 2 x 11 Gravel bike). Which corresponds to lower chainring wear. I think its because of better chain line and lower torque due to a lower gear in the 2 x 10.

    Happy with both systems though. Like the simplicity of 1 x 10 for local blasts, prefer 2 x 10 for longer multi-day rides.

    Anyway thought gears were booked in for March?
