  • The point is that he’s having to learn on the job. He’s nowhere near the finished article but needs must.

    We’ve been spoiled by a run of decent English spinners - Giles (latterly), Swann (better than decent), Ali (should be playing) and Panesar (when his confidence was there).

    Neither Bess or Leach can hold a candle to them.

  • I agree that he's learning on the job, but the abuse he gets on that job is totally unwarranted. He's learning fast, and making a very good fist of it!

    However Giles was a decent defensive spinner, and bat at best. Swan for the few years he was at his peak, top class, (but it was a few years) . Monty I loved (I saw his first test wicket, Tendulkar in Nagpur), and yes Ali should be playing.
