GRX 1x mech comfortably does 11-46, may even do bigger.

30/46 x 11-42 is the new 1x

It can, even road derailleur can just about cope with 11-40 on a 50/34

yes works pretty well for me. it is a little more finicky and maybe slightly more insecure but the range is pretty great.
