• Narrow angle V with odd number of cylinders is VW, even number is Lancia.

    Odd, to me is chosing a close angle v engine, so you need so many unique parts.

  • You've heard of a a VW VR6 or an R32 right? That would be a narrow angle V with an even number of cylinders that's not a Lancia.

    Also isn't it done as a cost out, there's only one cylinder head and one set of cams for a start

  • VW allegedly bought (some say copied) lancia V knowledge and tech from Fiat.

    Cost wise, less materials and machine work in the head compared to two? But then the the blocks and pistons. Believed that it was down to a smaller engine size, smoother engine especially the 4. Interesting to think about discuss.
