  • Yup, as Regal says it’s mostly reverb and possibly delay. Worth experimenting with other modulation pedals to see how different they sound, all in all it should be a little more subtle.

In other news I pulled the trigger on a 2 piece Ash Tele body and will be slowly putting it together as a bit of a lockdown project... Not looking forward to the sanding!

  • He was always like that tho', I remember when he was the young lad in the shop where TK Maxx is now, massive wideboy vibes... Which I'm totally okay with...

  • That looks FUCKING ACE! White on white is totally schmick... 🎩

  • I didn't realise Macari's was gone, that's where I picked up my Mustang. Haywards Heath is actually a lot closer to me so maybe I'll pop in when the shops are open again

  • I'm so in love with the white on white. My continuously absent and unfinished custom bass will be the same but with a maple fingerboard.

It's weird how I've gotten to a place where, aside from my Duo-Sonic and PRS Custom 22 I really only like black and white guitars with some concession for a nice sunburst...

  • That's (Jazzmaster) really pretty - nice work!

  • .
    ..

I'll preface this by saying as a general rule of thumb I hate Irish trad music. For the most part it's a collection of people in a pub corner starting a song together and then all trying to get to the end of it as quickly as possible with as little dynamicism and delicacy as possible because there are free pints for the band and they need a top up.

    However;
    Lankum are bloody brilliant.

  • I see that fender is persevering with the acoustasonic. Now releasing a jazz master based offset model:

I'm still struggling to understand the point of these. Although I may be coming round as I no longer view them as a total abomination.

All of the reviews I've seen for them say they're ok if you can't decide between an acoustic and an electric. However from what I can see, given the price you could happily buy a decent mid range acoustic and electric for the same dorrah added to that they are very difficult for anyone other than a fender approved tech to adjust. Has anyone played one? Am I missing something?

  • Perfect guitar for a working musician who isn't a gear nerd I guess?

  • I agree with you, it looks and sounds like the worst of both worlds. Don’t know how they’ve sold. Worst thing for me is that they have bugger all actual acoustic capability and all the tone comes from the digital modelling stuff. I had assumed it was like a mini acoustic that you could also plug in and get electric tones with.

Maybe if you need to do both acoustic and electric parts live and don’t want to take two guitars into the shower.

Edit: I shouldn’t be such a retrogrouch, fair play to Fender for trying something new. It probably just needs one successful artist using one and they’ll take off.

  • As unlikely as it seems, they must have taken off in some way otherwise the original would have sunk without trace, instead of spawning its hideous Strat and Jazzmaster offspring.

  • It probably just needs one successful artist using one and they’ll take off.

I suspect someone like Keith Urban or one of the commercial country crowd has made this the must have accessory of the scene already...

  • I think you must be right, however much they invested in the R&D, I don’t think Andy Mooney is the kind of bloke who’d fall victim to the sunk cost fallacy and keep plugging away if they weren’t selling well.

  • The blue one looks well nice to me. Perfect front room guitar, quieter than a proper acoustic for just pulling off the wall and playing something, can plug it in if nodding around with some fx... Fancy pants ideas guitar.

  • Perfect front room guitar

  • I’ve no idea if they’re still around but I always thought Godin was the answer for electric and acoustic in one instrument. Sound brilliant as both, just look weird as shit

  • Haha - 60 years of free beer almost by my old man’s reckoning. He’s worn out and rebuilt several concertinas in that time.

  • It’s some of the same Fishman tech as in the Godins I believe but Fender have included this modelling tech that lets you change what type of acoustic guitar you want it to sound like, rather like amp/cab sims and IRs in digital amps. Maybe there are Godins that do that too?

  • Ah right - it’s been a while admittedly but when I had a fuck around on a Godin I didn’t feel like I was wanting for modelling software, tone was pleasing enough. I have genuinely no idea what’s possible these days though 😅

  • My mate is working composer for film music in Germany and bought an acoustasonic for quick workflow reasons. He said it was the most convincing plugged in acoustic sound he’d ever heard. He also told me he returned it after a few days. I can’t recall exactly why as I was busy trolling him by sending clips of horrible piezo acoustic sounds on 90s records.

  • I flipping love Lankum.

  • I've come around to them as well, and see them a bit like multi-FX units. As much as the tart in me likes having the separate 'proper' pedals, when I actually plug one in and am playing around, it's hard to argue with the convenience/fun of having everything there. They look like they'd be great fun with the looper pedal.

Also, I used to be really against the idea of the thin electric-like acoustics until I lived with someone who kept theirs in the lounge for a bit. Pretty much as comfy and easy to play as an electric when you're crap like me, sound was a bit boxy, but definitely 'an acoustic guitar', and not always a bad thing that it's not as loud.

I'm not buying one, but I could definitely see the appeal of it - especially if you haven't got space to store a few guitars and mostly play through headphones/unplugged anyway.

  • Yeah I liked those old stratacoustics or whatever they were called, always played nice unplugged.

  • Yes.
