Sure - that was why I pulled out. I did a little bit of route-planning. France section would be good but most of the Italy section would be Po valley then the road down the coast from Rimini which, in August, would be busy as.
Highlight for me was CP4 - the Appenines bit. CP3 would be wonderful on a nice day but I wouldn't want to get caught up there on the wrong bike with the wrong kit in the middle of the night in a storm. And I wasn't ecstatic about riding Roubaix cobbles with a fully loaded bike!

Riding through France and Italy wouldn't really feel like riding across the whole Europe though, even though it's not far off.
