  • Getting there. Replaced the bottom bracket as it had suffered from the usual corosion, unfortunately there is a little bit of play when the cranks are horizontal, not sure how much of a problem it is, it's very slight and generally running smooth. The sensible option would have been to use cartridge bearings but I wanted to keep the bike original.

  • Specialized hardrock finished. Group set is from a trek, I like it! Going to take it for a spin today. Think I'll try and get my partner to use this for touring when we get a chance. This was a freecycle from the forum shout out @T_Unit ! Also shout out @velosaurus who freecycled me a load of useful stuff. Including the pedals which tried to rebuild today but a special tool is needed to tighten them back up. I managed to improvise by dropping in a bearing to temporarily lock up the cone but it I have a feeling the will come loose.

  • I had that exact same Hardrock model 25 years ago. They do ride nice. Well done on those pedals

(Brilliant you are using some of that stuff and thank you so much again)

  • Nice! Yep, my first proper bike was a specialized hardrock, slightly later with 1 1/8 inch fork. Got stolen at school but it was a great bike. No bike ever felt quite as good since!
No I really appreciate it, I really like finding a purpose for things haha!
