Ringworm isn't a worm. It's a fungus so doesn't eat brains. Except the zombie version.

I don't know.
But it's the sort of thing that when enough people say it, you start to think that if there's any chance it could be, I'd want to be protected from it.
The last person I heard it from was a Biology teacher I work with who knows a lot about parasites.
