  • With your bike racks on them?

    Yep.

  • This is why thieves took my colleagues Corolla hybrid silencer, believing it was the cat. The previous Auris model, had the cat in an exposed location so fast removal was possible. The Corolla cat is now nearer the manifold and positioned vertically in front of the engine, so pretty much impossible to remove from underneath.

  • Owned our van a month. Been robbed. Got a USB cable and a couple of 12v-usb things. Oh, and the phone mount. Nothing serious, but should I expect this happening frequently?

  • Booo! that sucks man.

Maybe a "No Valuables Kept in Van" disclaimer?

  • I want a go!!! I drove a MK1 Escort RS last year, was an absolute blast

  • that is shit luck dude.

don't know of frequency as you might just have been really unlucky.

  • Finally get my DS back from the garage again tomorrow- new pressure regulator, centrifugal regulator, pipes, seals , radiator, clutch adjustment, exhaust etc..!
Then to install a new webasto sunroof top cover, Pallas trims on the body, deep clean the carpets, seats out, leather given some TLC. Hours of fun!

  • Ha, they took a usb cable! And the cheapest halfords-own-brand phone mount you can get. I think they have their own idea of valuables. I guess I'll just bring all that shit in with me from now own. They still went through the glove box though. At least they left the hand sanitizer behind. But now that I think about it, they did take a packet of tissues. Oh well...

  • Aren't you in Bristol?

When I was younger and I used to go there I'd strip absolutely everything out, including rubbish and leave the glove box open.

  • Nah, this is Hackney. Pro glove-box tip, though.

  • Oh that's shit! Was there any damage following the break in, or was it left unlocked?

Is it a panel van, or are there windows?

  • Not panel/has windows (berlingo multispace). No smashed windows so I guess I left it unlocked (only the front driver's side door was unlocked when I noticed - they also crawled into the back by pullig the rear seats down).

  • Door checking is common in lots of places, so if there wasn’t an obvious break in, I’d imagine that’s what it was, opportunism rather than targeting.

  • But now that I think about it, they did take a packet of tissues.

    Bastards!

    Glad it wasn't worse.

In the 90s I had a 79 Monte Carlo that I swear was the entry level car thief trainer car. Lost 2 stereos until I got the removable type. They also took to really cool mix tapes too. Including ones with my only copies of pre-discovery Tracy Chapman songs from my old Uni radio station. That and my only audio copy of my interview with Ad Rock.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Mostly annoyed, but a bit pissed after having other shit robbed from here within the last year. Gets tiring.

  • That and my only audio copy of my interview with Ad Rock.

    That is brutal.

  • Not as brutal as the interview itself. Their reputation for being uncooperative was well deserved.

  • i personally wouldn't touch anything vw - the ones i tried are great cars, but i always had the feeling that they are designed to be great cars until the end of the warranty period..

what gen rx300 are we talking about?

  • During "the liquid bomb plot" search at High Wycombe in '06 our marked police search can was screwed one afternoon. The Tomtom Go was in the windscreen and it was parked in a residential street. An unknown scrote smashed the driver's quarter light and took it. Assume nothing is safe.

  • I did. I wouldn’t recommend. For all its reputation I found it dull as ditchwater to drive, unreliable and very cheaply made.

Hang on, don’t you like Rover SD1’s?

  • Fit some proper locks. If you want to keep em out.

I spent £500 quick on locks from protect a van, earned their keep when some shit tried to open the back door, deadlock prevented that!

  • I think this might be my favourite forum car (sorry @jonny)
Looking forward to seeing the finished article.

  • Pro glove-box tip

I always thought it sent a clear message. I did it ever since a mate's housemate had his window smashed in for a pack of backie.

  • This is how I (used to) park all of my cars. Unlocked with nothing in it.
