TRADE: Ultegra R8000 53/39 chainset for a 50/36

  • Bit of a long shot, but as above!

In retrospect I was a bit arrogant in my chainring choice given the amount of time I spend in the Kent hills. Probably seen around 1000km so in very good nick, looking to trade for equivalent Ultegra 50/36, or equivalent (oval chainrings also considered)

    Cheers

  • Just get a 36 chainring?

  • I figured the jump would be too big, is that not the case?

  • Yes it's too big or yes that's not the case?

  • Too big a drop.

I believe 14 tooth difference is what is listed as the limit.
You might get away with maybe 1 or 2 more than their limit but 17 😲

  • OK thanks. Also now thinking a new cassette may be a better idea, any implications of upsizing there with current chainset?!

  • I'm on 52/36 R8000 which shifts great. Is 1tooth more going to make it explode?

  • No, it's not.

I've used a 53/36 combination with absolutely no ill effect in t'Alps, and still run it with good effect to this day.

    Dura-Ace 9070 standard cage with 53/36 Ultegra 6800 chainset/ rings.

  • Pretty sure I'm using 52/34, also without issue

  • Nice one, thanks guys - will give it a bash
