I have a 34" ultrawide which I sat about 60-70cm away from and it's fine. (This one https://www.cclonline.com/product/philips-345b1c-curved-monitor-34-inch-3440-x-1440-uwqhd-va-panel-amd-freesync-black-345b1c-00-318559/ it's a bit pricier but the one USB C cable for power, video, sound and USB hub is great.)
I wouldn't be so keen on a 4K monitor. Comparing the dimensions of that to mine I think it would be too much looking up/down if you're that close.
I've had the same Philips 34" ultrawide for a few months.
Do you have any issues with it? I find fonts not quite as sharp as my 25" 1440p Dell.
Can't say I've noticed although I moved onto it from a couple of 10 year old HD monitors so it's a big improvement over those.
I guess you'd maybe expect it to be a little less sharp, the Dell should have a higher pixel density.
I am very happy with my 2 25" 1440p Dells. Same overall screen real estate as the 49 inch ultrawides.
Though I would very much like the 49 ultrawide to avoid the bezel in the centre...
