  • I’ve had CX9 with SRAM levers 8 years ago, was a bit spongy but still very powerful (standard housing).

  • So done some testing out, my S500 crack when getting involved in an incident between two person on the road.

    SRAM S500 = stiffest one insofar, there was zero flex on the levers.

    Shimano R400 = decent modulation, noticable flex when applying a lots of pressure.

    Tektro RL340 = average modulation, noticable flex when applying a lots of pressure, bizarrely lacklustre in power.

    Gif of Shimano levers;

  • Top work Ed. ^ this chimes with my experience. Cane Creek SCR-5 are my faves. I haven’t tried TRP rrl levers thought.

    Life was simpler when we all ran the brakless. Sigh.

  • Interesting about the Crane Creek being stiffer that the Tetro as the levers look the same shape?

    Materials or hoods being the difference?

  • Which Cane Creek? the Tektro RL340 is different to the now discontinued Cane Creek SCR-5 which borrow it's design from Campagnolo.

    Shimano R600 levers are noticably better in feedback than the R400 down to material use.

  • @edscoble the SCR-5 miro_o mentioned above

    In your flex test is Tektro>Shimano? I have both knocking about.

  • The cane creek are not the same shape as the the Tektro rl340.

    The scr-5 is stiffer than the R600 (I’ve had both). Is it stiffer than the rl340? Meh, probably not. It’s a far nicer shape though. Cable pull is about the same.

  • The SCR-5 is nothing like the RL340.

    SCR-5 definitely amongst the best as I have amazing performance with BB5 and compressionless with it also.

  • And cheaper than the Sram S500

  • Way cheaper.

    Saying that, people happily pay money for Ultegra shifter, can’t see why we can’t have decent brake levers.

  • Which lever is most comfy in your opinion?

  • Src-5 is super comfy but a little bit ugly.
    S500 is the golden middle way for me.

  • Campag Record master race

  • SRAM S900 or Campagnolo Record singlespeed.

  • DA 7400 or >>>>>>>>

  • would love to build a bike around those campag levers.

  • I did, on the Tokyo Fixed I build for touring.

  • Can’t find original;

    It was for a month long tour to Casablanca from London 8 years ago, with lightweight 32mm tyres (Grand Bois), new fork, dynamo front, Paul cantilever, brooks, etc.

    Currently building a bike around an above average chainring bolt.

  • Very hot. Looks just perfect for it’s intended use.

    What cranks?

  • Which lever is most comfy in your opinion?

    Wish i could get on better with S500's as they're the best looking but the plastic bulk/shoulder that sits on the bars really does my palms in. I've tried a few and TRP are by far the nicest for my hands. Guess it'll be like saddles though.

  • Velo Orange, 48/20, was spot on with light load.

  • Guess it'll be like saddles though.

    Spot on, didn’t find Tektro RL340 comfortable but @youramericanlover definitely did.
