• What’s forum opinion on the vw Touareg.

Seems like a lot of car for not much money these days

Failing that I’m partial to a Lexus rx300

  • i personally wouldn't touch anything vw - the ones i tried are great cars, but i always had the feeling that they are designed to be great cars until the end of the warranty period..

what gen rx300 are we talking about?

  • Great car. If I was to buy an SUV it probably would be a diesel Touareg. One of the last visits back to the UK my dad had one as his daily and I drove it back from the airport. Really well screwed together, comfortable and loads of space.

  • I was planning on buying a 3.0 V6 TDI Toureg but I didn't because:

If they have air suspension its expensive to repair.
    They eat tyres
They eat front brake pads and discs
Running costs are fairly high in terms of "normal" servicing
They need a replacement propshaft and/or prop shaft bearing every 80-100k. If you test drive one and the centre console arm rest is vibrating it's either gone or on the way out.
Watch out for "corrosion on fuel tank straps" in the MOT history - means it's probably pretty grotty underneath.

I would get one from post 2008> as they have the better 240bhp TDI and 30 quid less road tax
