  • East London petrol station with a self service jet washer? The ones on Grove Road and Hackney Wick have shut recently.

  • The appropriately named Jet on Leyton High Road

  • I love this forum, cheers @jackincaves

  • I've only seen Cane Creek and Chris King.

    How about a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" crown race and then use an EC44 40 headset?

  • Th Jet jet-wash is closed due to lockdown, not sure if that’s because it’s non-essential or it’s an aerosol generating procedure. Any other tips?

  • Ah sorry - I haven't actually used it myself, have just noticed it when riding past. The BP further up the same road towards Walthamstow has a 'car wash' but not sure if there's a jet wash or just one of the roller things for cars.

Only other one I can think of is in Buckhurst Hill, which probably isn't very helpful unless you're coming back from Epping Forest!

  • Thanks for the suggestion! Lauf seem to make one for £20 or so.. Seems quite pricy still but maybe cheaper overall. Should I be worried about what headset bearings i pair it with? Edit- Ah just seen the angle on the crown race is 36degrees

  • anyone familiar with dealing with AIG insurers?

I emailed them re a policy and have received this distinctly dodgy looking reply including a 'SecureMessageAtt.html' attachment and a request to click on a link. I'm obvs not keen to do so

  • Send that screenshot to them and ask the question.

  • The BP on Forest Road (Walthamstow) used to be my go-to, noticed that it was operational when I last passed about a week ago

  • I hit a pothole nice and hard the other day and my pedal/cranks ended up looking like this. Now I can't get the pedal back into the crank further than the second image without a lot of force and it's going in at an angle. I guess I've knackered the threads? What are my options for sorting this out? Get someone mechanically competent to drill a slightly larger diameter hole in the crank arm and install an M8 helicoil?
I have another (nicer) crankset sitting in my parts bin that was going to go on when the weather was nicer but it seems a waste to write these off after less than a year's use.

Edit: photos are in reverse order. The photo featuring my feet is immediately after the pothole incident, the photo in the kitchen is me trying to sort it out.

  • That looks quite a lot like you've just cross-threaded the first couple of threads. I'd back it out and carefully put it back in straighter and with a bit of care you should be able catch the right threads. A good start will be to put the pedal in the other side of the crank with plenty of grease and tighten it all the way up as it should tidy up the thread in the crank thread. If you've got a needle file or a scriber, it might help if you can use the pointy end to clear the debris out the threads. Use plenty of grease again to help it back in the right way.

  • Was your crank arm always that close to the chainstay? Looks rubby, maybe it's the angle of the photo 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • I just tried threading it in from the wrong side, then back in the correct way it worked a treat, thanks! A fair bit of metal came out with the pedal, should I be concerned?

  • I think it's the angle, this is what the clearance looks like straight down.

  • If it's only 1 or 2 threads you might be alright for a bit. If it was me I'd replace the crank arm in the near future still

  • I was planning to slap some Dura Ace cranks I've got on there in spring/summer anyway. Hoping these will tide me over until then! It's not like I'm straying too far from home at the moment...
    Thanks everyone for the advice.

  • Well that didn't last long...

  • After Epping cleaning is my main concern, which Buckhurst Hill petrol station has a sprayer?

  • Cheers, will give it a shot this weekend

  • Well that didn't last long...

Worth putting in a claim to the relevant council. You can often get money for damage from potholes.

No idea how to do this, I think a few people here have.

  • I want a hipster friendly, probably overpriced, 1x disc frame for a commuter type thing. for use with jones bars.

I miss my all city nature boy disc, and want a geared version of that, brief searches gives me all city super professional, but basically unavailable in 52, or in a fantasy land importing a crust cycles, but i dread to think the total price by the time it gets here

    what else?

  • Brother Kepler?
