ISA wrapper: I want a buy and forget market tracker.
Whats a good tracker-esque fund?
I keep trying and theyre not HMRC approved or arent uk.

cut my GME losses at ~60%
Great success!

Damn that's generous! Mine's only 15% total - I'm looking at about £11k income when I retire. FML

£11k in 2050 might get you some biscuits. If you are lucky.

That's de-inflated thank fuck. Otherwise crack addiction and early death would be the plan

Ours is one of the few banks not paying bonuses. Swings and roundabouts.

If it saves me spunking thousands down the drain in future attempts at dallying in the stock market then it really is a small (<£200) price to pay.

I've decided I've made £1000 by not engaging with this then losing £1,000, so I'm going to buy myself a moderately nice watch. or 1/40th of a kitchen.
-
• #2386
You should have not invested more! If you'd not put in £2k then you'd have 1/20th of a kitchen.
Hindsight makes fools of everyone.
-
• #2387
Do it retrospectively, get youreself a £2K watch

Wont loose on a rolex Howard ;)

I didn't not gamble £8k

I was told half your age in % was a good guide to go off.
-
• #2391
Yeah, I scrape in under 15% so this is about right. I guess that rule assumes you get state pension at £9k, otherwise £11k is pathetic. Bollocks.
I think the real solution is "get a better-paying job" but that's not an option for many...

how long are you planning to hold? if quite a long time (>5 yrs) maybe go for vanguard LS1oo or FTSE Global All Cap

Spread the risk. It would be loooong term. Only pull it out once every 10 years when the cycle reboots. Wait for the next financial crash, or pandemic or whatever the next big thing is.
To compliment the gambling on things like GME. huge short term gainz. But super high risk of going wrong, like brokers being on the side of the hedges.

@onyerbike
vanguard LS1oo hereAlso thanks for this
I'm finding it's actually quite hard finding something my broker is OK with as well as being an isa tax wrapper.

time in the market > timing the market
if you are holding for 10years though you definitely want to be going for equities. no point in holding bonds etc.

Is it difficult to change broker? I'm weighing up which to choose for my S&S ISA but it would be a lot easier if I knew I could change broker relatively easily.

^^+1

On the assumption that CGT goes up to similar levels as income tax what would be a tax efficient way to deal with that? Shove it all in a pension? Really doesn’t sit well with my instant gratification

Go back in time and make sure everything is ISA wrapped
Buy the
