Rest in Peace Capt Tom,
what a remarkable gentleman -

tho you can't help but wonder if the old boy would still be with us had his family not taken him on hols to Barbados late last year - all bought and paid for by British Airways. Still, he got to go to Barbados i spose.
poor fella.

If I was 98 with my brain in tact and the legs to do laps of my garden and someone said "you get two more years, to raise a shit ton of money for charity, to tell your story to an adoring public and we'll throw in a sunny, all expenses paid holiday to boot" I would have snatched their hand off.
RIP sir.

Totally. He probably had another quality year or two in him.

Many classic photos, I’m going to dig out my old copies of Grand Royal and see what’s in there, I’m sure he wrote some articles too.

Some amazing tributes today on the BBC for Capt Sir Tom Moore. Inspirational man, what a hero. We should celebrate his birthday every year on 30 April.

Don't think he'll manage to blow out the candles.

mate. that's a bit raw.

• #8463
I'd best keep my thoughts about this to myself

Having caught a few minutes of the BBC Breakfast coverage of this, I’m going to do the same.

Now BoJo is using the news to get some points on his CV by trying to organise a National clap for him this evening.
-
• #8469
He should double down and have a clap for Marcus Rashford as well.

• #8470
I don't have to see the coverage...
Moi aussie... (sic)

But Boris doesn't do gesture politics.

Sorry, I did tone it down a little. Great guy, great life, did some stuff at the beginning and end of it he never should have had to due to the ruling arseholes and got well rewarded for it, he doesn't need a day naming after him though.

• #8473
I did a lol.

Nothing to do with the old guy himself, just in the context of mass deaths from horrific respiratory illness (yes I know covid kills in other ways but it's losing ability to breathe that seems most terrifying). No I don't think we should nationally mourn, and I'm avoiding the news for a couple of days.

from horrific respiratory illness
I was going with him being dead more than trouble breathing, serves me right for avoiding some of the things I was going to write that I thought might be a bit too dark.
I read about Cicely Tyson last Friday,
iconic
ground breaking
trailblazing
pioneering
fashionista
acting in film and on stage
RIP beautiful lady..
..the world should honour you
