virtual horizontal from the lip of the jump or just land to flat?
I'm backing you on this 100%.

My preference would be for them to come down a slope, up a ramp and then land on flat ground.

We wouldnt allow jumping off a hill in the long jump or triple jump

I reckon the long jump would be much more exciting if it was performed from a roof.
